Ray Lamontagne

I first heard this cat on “Live From Abbey Road” on cable.  WOW.  He could sing from the phonebook and make it sound good.  I hope he keeps producing records.  I prefer his raw sound on his first album but check out “Three More Days” on his second album – it kills.  http://www.raylamontagne.com/

The Frames – The Cost

Ok, so you might know of this band because of the movie Once.  Glen Hansard is the leader of this group and he was the star of the movie.  His band has been around a while and this is an album that probably puts them in the mainstream.  The grammy award winning song “Falling Slowly” is also on this album, but I don’t think it’s the version from the movie.   http://www.theframes.ie/

A group of guys that love the harmonies of the Eagles and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.  Their debut album is just coming out.  www.lowstars.com

Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings – 100 Days, 100 Nights

This retro-soul group kicks. Their most recent album is very good – check out “100 Days, 100 Nights”.

Spoon – “The Underdog”

What a great track. I never met these guys when I was working around the Texas music scene, but I would love to see them live sometime. They are from Austin.  http://www.spoontheband.com/

Amy Winehouse

Her album Back To Black may have been a bit prophetic, but that still doesn’t change that it is a DAMN good record. This is always on rotation in my collection. “You Know I’m No Good” is a good cut, but the whole album is pretty awesome. Let’s hope she doesn’t go off the deep end and off herself before she gets a few more albums out [warning! dark humor].

Flyleaf

I really like some of their music, but the harder screaming stuff isn’t my bag. “Fully Alive” is one of my faves.

Goodwin

I used to play with (sometimes), record (lots), and help promote (frequently) these guys when they were Uncle Pete’s Parade (with a different singer and drummer), Bindle (with the current singer but a different drummer), and…well, I can’t even remember all the name changes.  Nevertheless, Matt, Tony and Daniel rawk out and have a groove that you just have to hear to appreciate.  Don’t miss Goodwin, or you’ll be sorry.  These guys are always in my ipod.

Imogen Heap – Lead Singer of Frou Frou

If you like Frou Frou, then you might like Imogen’s solo work. It’s not the trip-hoppiness of her former self, but there’s some eclectic and cool stuff going on here. Check out “Hide and Seek” for a real treat. www.imogenheap.co.uk

Tally Hall

These indie rockers have one album out – Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum – and it’s a good one. They must be influenced by Ben Folds and his ilk, though I am not really sure. “Good Day” is one of my favorite tracks, though “Just Apathy” is a great track, too.  www.tallyhall.com
